Ask what year a house near Lake Charm was built and the answer might be 1895, or it might be 2021 -- Oviedo holds both ends of that timeline within a few miles of each other. Powell Settlement and the streets around Lake Charm carry hardware that predates the automobile; the townhomes going up around the edges of town carry builder-grade deadbolts that have never once been rekeyed.
The free-roaming chickens on Broadway are real, and so is the contrast behind them: a historic downtown built for foot traffic sitting next to a town that has grown mostly outward since. We work both ends of that span, sometimes within the same afternoon -- a hundred-year-old mortise case before lunch, a smart deadbolt still on its factory code after.
Homes in and around Powell Settlement and Lake Charm date to the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the locks often do too. It's easy to write a page about Oviedo that only talks about the two extremes, but most calls here land somewhere in between -- an aging deadbolt on a house nobody would call historic, on a street that isn't part of any new development either.
